Congratulations to both Professor Heidi Frostestad and Professor Matt Timko on their recent publications in the Law Library Journal! Both have written articles featured in volume 114: Professor Frostestad's The Right to Access Legal Information: Progress and Evolving Norms in a Digital Age and Professor Timko's Applying Universal Design in the Legal Academy.
Professor Frostestad's article "addresses the traditional international law facilitation of open access to legal information and current legislative efforts for protection of these norms," exploring both current standards as well as suggesting improvements. The article concludes with examples of successful initiatives from around the world, including those from the United Nations, the European Union, and the United States. If you're interested in international law and organizations or efforts to make legal information freely available, you can freely read Prof. Frostestad's article on Huskie Commons.
Professor Timko's article explains principles of universal design which "[offer] the key to not only increased access to legal education and legal knowledge but also a more fundamental shift in the perceptions and thinking that have plagued disability laws and design habits." The article focuses especially on how universal design can and should be deployed in law libraries, as well as explaining just what is meant by universal design, as opposed to other accessibility principles and catchphrases. If you're interested in disability law and advocacy or how legal education can be improved for everyone, you can freely read Prof. Timko's article on Huskie Commons.
