Finals: Study Aids and Access

Law students are welcome and encouraged to study in the library during final exams and so may use their OneCards to access the Law Library during key card access hours: 7:30am to midnight every day through Thursday, December 15th. Remember:

  • Follow library policies, even when it is closed to the public.
  • The South Wing is for quiet study, and food must be eaten in the student lounge only.
  • Group study rooms are available first-come-first served outside regular operating hours. At other times, reserve via Bookings
  • For security and safety, do not prop open the library door, adjust the door's bar lock, or admit visitors into the library outside of regular operating hours.

Study aids are available in the Law Library's print collections, including those on display in the Current Collection and the Browseable Reserves (bookshelves to the left of the Circulation Desk). Many study resources and eBooks are also available online.

Winter Break

During Winter Break, the Law Library will be open reduced hours both before and after the university holiday closure. When staffing is low, the doors may be locked or the Circulation Desk may be unstaffed. At those times, please ring the posted doorbell for assistance or admission. See the calendar below for detailed dates and times: key card access hours are for law students only, while all visitors are welcome during regular library hours. Normal library hours and operations will resume when the spring semester begins on Tuesday, January 17th.

The Law Library will be closed along with the rest of the University from Wednesday, December 21st through Monday, January 2nd. During the closure:

  • Key card access to the library will be unavailable.
  • Books may be returned in the book drop to the left of the entrance doors. They will be checked in on Tuesday, January 3rd.
  • Library users can place holds on items from the Law Library, Founders Library, or I-Share libraries through HuskieSearch. These holds will be processed when the libraries reopen, and emails will be sent when they are ready for pickup.
  • Online resources and databases are available for study and research. Most are accessible from home for members of the law school community.
  • Questions or requests may be sent to lawreference@niu.edu and will receive a response once the library reopens.
