Spring Break Printing Upgrades

New printers - Spring 2024 with photos of the new North Wing and main Law Library printers

Over Spring Break, the NIU campus AnywherePrints system received an upgrade: all the Canon printers in Swen Parson Hall have been exchanged for new Ricoh printers, and the Pharos print client system has been replaced with the PaperCut system. Printer locations and printing costs remain the same (5¢ per page for black/white and 12¢ for color pages), but the North Wing printer now provides a color printing option.

After installation and testing, we're pleased to report that the new printers in the Law Library are working well! To get you up to speed, we've provided some directions for printing and scanning. Don't worry if it looks like a lot--the steps are quick and easy! We've also posted a step-by-step guide (DOCX) for releasing print jobs near both printers. And, as always, we encourage you to stop by the Law Library Circulation Desk for assistance.

Sending to the Printer

  1. Visit the WebPrint site and sign in with your Z-ID (students) or A-ID (faculty/staff).
  2. Select "Web Print" from the menu.
  3. Choose "Submit a Job."
  4. Select the radio button beside either of the two virtual printers listed (either will work equally well).
  5. Enter the number of copies and select which account to charge. "Charge to shared account" should be used for print jobs relating to NIU employment.
  6. Drag-and-drop or select the document(s) you intend to print. Possible file types include Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PDF, JPG, PNG, and XPS, among others.
  7. Choose "Upload & Complete."
  8. Your print job will be added to the queue, which you can release using any AnyWhere Prints printer on campus (for locations outside Swen Parson, see this map of available printers.)
    • Any unreleased print jobs will be removed from the queue after 24 hours.

Printing at the Printer

  1. Stop by your preferred printer: in the Law School, two easily accessible options are just inside the Law Library (to the left of the entry doors) and in the North Wing, opposite the Marshall Gallery entrance.
  2. Swipe or tap your ID to log in: new OneCards can be either swiped or tapped, while older OneCards can only be read by swiping. (The card reader is generally located on the right side near the top.)
  3. Select "Print all" to release all queued print jobs, or choose "Print release" to view individual jobs.
    • You can delete or change print settings on individual jobs from the "Print release" screen.
  4. Your document(s) will print.
    • If you encounter a paper jam, low supplies notice, or other error, please report it to the Law Library Circulation Desk.
  5. Tap the "Log out" button before stepping away from the printer.

Scanning to an Email Address

  1. Bring your material(s) to the printer, and swipe or tap your ID.
    • If you are not a current NIU faculty, student, or staff member, stop by the Law Library Circulation Desk for assistance.
  2. Select the "Scan" icon.
    • If the "Scan" icon is not visible at this point, select "Device functions" and, on the following screen, "Use device functions." At that point, a desktop-like screen should appear, including a "Scan" icon.
  3. If prompted, choose either "Dept Account" or "Use personal account." (There should be no charge for either.)
  4. At the following screen, edit the email subject or filename as desired.
  5. Review the settings, and change them as needed.
    • If you want to scan a multiple page document, select the "Prompt for more pages" box near the bottom right.
  6. Place the item you want to scan facedown on the flatbed scanner, aligned to the top left corner, or place the pages face-up, if using the document feeder on top.
  7. Press the "Start scanning" button at the bottom right of the screen.
  8. At the landing page, review the number of pages scan and choose to "Scan more pages," "Scan new document," or "Finish and send."
    • If nothing is selected here, the scan will automatically be sent after 30 seconds.
  9. When you are finished scanning, press the "Log out" button at the top right.
  10. Your document(s) will arrive at your email address. You can now forward this email, download and save the file, or print it (by following the steps for "Sending to the Printer" above).

For more information and documentation about the printers or the Anywhere Prints program, please visit the DoIT Anywhere Prints page. If you encounter any IT problems in Swen Parson, you can also contact COLIT.
