Law Library News: Recent Updates

National Library Week 2025

Come celebrate National Library Week at the Law Library, starting Monday, April 6th. This year's theme is Drawn to the Library: whatever draws you in, libraries have something for everyone! 

This weeklong celebration of all things library includes special celebration days:

• Monday, April 7th is Right to Read Day, a day for celebrating the freedom to read freely and advocating for that freedom. The American Library Association will be releasing its State of America's Libraries Report, which includes the Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2024.
• Tuesday, April 8th is National Library Workers Day, and here in the Law Library, that means treats for everyone who "works" in the library, whether paid work or homework. Stop by the table near the Library entryway throughout the day for a variety of tasty snacks!
• Wednesday, April 9th is National Library Outreach Day. While the Law Library doesn't have a bookmobile, many of our resources can still meet you wherever you are--check out the wide variety of databases and other legal resources available in our A-Z list (also sortable by topic and jurisdiction)! 
• Thursday, April 10th is Take Action for Libraries Day. This year, library advocates are advocating for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), recently impacted by an executive order, and calling on Congress to maintain funding that supports library services in every state. Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias has issued a message on the impacts for Illinois libraries.
