HuskieSearch Help: My Library Account

Provides helpful tips and hints for using Huskie Search and Library Services.

Signing in to HuskieSearch

When you sign into HuskieSearch, you are able to: 

  • View My Library Account, which includes: My Loans (Items you have checked out) and My Requests (Items you have requested).
  • Save items you found and searches to My Favorites
  • Access electronic resources linked from HuskieSearch. Signing in ensures that your have been authenticated as an NIU student, faculty, or staff member. 
  • Use library services, such as requesting items through I-Share or NIUILLiad. 

My Library Account

My Library Account allows you to view items associated with your account and perform library services, such as renewing a book or canceling a request. You may also define your personal settings.  

To access, click on either Sign In or Menu at the top right of the screen. If clicking on Menu, then click on My Library Account.

If you are not already logged into Office365 or Blackboard, then you will be prompted to login. Select the appropriate login option—Institutional or Visitor. Visitor accounts will be created by request.

After you have logged in, you will be taken to the My Library Account overview where you will be able to view: 

  • Loans: Items checked out to a patron, whether those materials are from NIU or another I-Share Library 
    Requests: Items patrons have requested from NIU or another I-Share Library that have not yet been checked out to the patron 
  • Fines + Fees: Any fines or fees incurred
  • Blocks + Messages: Any blocks or messages about the account
  • Personal Details: Personal contact information and default interface language preference (English or Spanish) 

Checked out items are listed under Loans. Click on the Loans tab or on a specific item in the Loan box to view. Note that items are listed by the lending school, so you must click on the name of the school from which the item is checked out to view all items.

From the Loan tab, renew your items by clicking on the lending school. Then click on the Renew link next to the item you wish to renew or select Renew All

ILLiad is one of the services we use to request items not available through NIU Libraries or I-Share. Access your ILLiad Account through My Library Account.

When you log in to the Overview page, you will see the box for Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad). Click on the NIUILLiad link to access your account where you can view, make, and manage ILLiad requests.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Off-campus faculty, staff, and students will need to designate their Campus Affiliation on the Change Personal Information page to ensure that physical items are delivered to their preferred location.

To save items to My Favorites, look for the pushpin icon. You can add items and searches (queries) to My Favorites.

To add more than one item at a time, check the box to the left of the item your wish to add. Then click on the pushpin icon at the top of the results. You may also add a label for the selected items. Then press Enter

To view My Favorites, click on the pushpin icon near the top right corner next to Sign In / your name.

Your Library Card Number

In some instances, you may need to enter in your Library Barcode Number (aka Your Library Card Number or Library ID Number) to request materials through ILLiad in your My Library Account. This is the 17-digit number beginning with 601 on your OneCard.  For more information and to order your card, go to OneCard ID Services.

You can also access this number in Blackboard using the instructions below: 
1.    Login to Blackboard. 
2.    On the “Institution Page” tab on the left-hand navigation menu, scroll down and click on “My OneCard.”
3.    You will be asked to login with you AID/ZID and password. 
4.    Once logged in, click “Card Services” and you will see your library account # on the page. Note that you only need the 17 digits starting with 601.

NOTE: You must have received a physical OneCard to be able to access your OneCard number through Blackboard.
