Huskie Commons is Northern Illinois University's institutional repository.
A service of the University Libraries, it showcases and preserves the scholarly materials and creative works produced by NIU faculty, students, and the NIU community. From peer-reviewed articles authored by faculty to honors capstone projects created by students to electronic theses and dissertations, Huskie Commons showcases the intellectual output of NIU's faculty, staff, students, and organizations.
Established in 2013, the NIU Open Access Fund seeks to advance the use of innovative research publishing models. In accordance with the NIU Open Access Policy, the fund is designed to heighten the visibility and accessibility of NIU's scholarly output. The Fund supports NIU faculty and enrolled graduate students in all disciplines who choose to publish in open access (OA) journals that require article processing charges. The application for Open Access Funding Support can be found here: https://library.niu.edu/university-libraries/services/openaccessfund.shtml
Transformative agreements are those contracts negotiated between institutions (libraries, national and regional consortia) and publishers that transform the business model underlying scholarly journal publishing, moving from one based on toll access (subscription) to one in which publishers are remunerated a fair price for their open access publishing services. — cOAlition S
The Library proactively supports Transformative Agreements with publishers when the agreement is financially viable and provides the faculty with comprehensive open publishing options.
The Library offers our faculty and students the ability to publish peer-reviewed open access journals. Through Huskie Commons, we provide a journal publishing platform that combines submission management, editorial, and peer-review tools in a flexible, hosted solution. If you are an NIU faculty member or student who would like to propose a journal, please contact Jaime Schumacher.
