Huskie Commons is Northern Illinois University's digital repository, a secure virtual space in which we collect, preserve, and provide access to the scholarly and artistic works created by the NIU community. From peer-reviewed articles authored by faculty to honors capstone projects created by students to electronic theses and dissertations, Huskie Commons showcases the intellectual output of NIU's faculty, staff, students, and organizations.
The Library now offers our faculty and students the ability to publish peer-reviewed open access journals. We currently offer a hosted instance of the journal management and publishing system called Open Journal Systems for this purpose. OJS provides an entire editorial management workflow in addition to the online presentation of journal articles. If you are an NIU faculty member or student who would like to propose a journal, please fill out our Journal proposal Form, and we will be back in touch with you very soon.
We currently host two open access journals with our Open Journal Systems installation.
Established in 2013, the NIU Open Access Fund seeks to advance the use of innovative research publishing models. In accordance with the NIU Open Access Policy, the fund is designed to heighten the visibility and accessibility of NIU's scholarly output. The Fund supports NIU faculty and enrolled graduate students in all disciplines who choose to publish in open access (OA) journals that require article processing charges. The application for Open Access Funding Support can be found here: https://library.niu.edu/university-libraries/services/openaccessfund.shtml
