Artificial Intelligence and Library Services: AI Detectotors

Introduction

A short definition

AI detectors are tools built to identify whether content—such as text, images, or other media—was created by artificial intelligence. They operate by examining linguistic patterns, structural features, and metadata to differentiate between human and AI-generated material. These systems use machine learning algorithms trained on both human and AI content to improve accuracy. AI detectors in higher education help identify AI-generated student work, promoting academic integrity. They support educators in detecting plagiarism, ensuring fair assessment, and adapting teaching strategies to evolving technological challenges. AI detectors also serve critical roles across multiple areas, including journalism, and cybersecurity. They help verify authenticity, detect fraud, and ensure content integrity. As AI tools become more advanced, the development of reliable detection methods becomes increasingly important to maintain trust and transparency in digital communication and media.
