Forms and other information for faculty

Reserves

To put items on reserve: 

  1. If you've had items on reserve for the course in previous semesters
    1. Email the Music Library (musiclibrary@niu.edu) stating the course name and code/number and that you would like to reuse the list.
    2. Staff will send you the previous list for updates and approval
      1. You can also choose the length of check out period for the students
        1. Library use only
          1. 2 hour
          2. 3 hour
          3. 4 hour
        2. Can leave the library
          1. 1 day
          2. 3 day
          3. 1 week
    3. Reply with changes and approval
    4. Staff will have the items ready within 5 business days. 
  2. If you've never had reserves for the course
    1. Email the Music Library (musiclibrary@niu.edu) with the course name and code/number and a list of items you'd like on reserve (a syllabus is acceptable)
      1. Choose the length of check out for the students (see above)
    2. Staff will have the items ready within 5 business days. 

 

Note: Personal copies require the Faculty member to fill out a form acknowledging what will be done to the item, and releasing the NIU Libraries from responsibility for damages. 

What can be put on reserve

Print items:

  1. Items from the stacks in the Music Library
  2. Items from the stacks in Founders Memorial Library
  3. Personal Copies
  4. Items for non-music courses (Art professors can take advantage of our location, etc.)
  5. Any of the items listed under Electronic below in print form

Electronic Items (only up to 10% of an item):

Note: Library Staff can create a LibGuide specifically for your course which can include these items.  

  1. Book Chapters
  2. Articles
  3. Exams
  4. Quizzes
  5. Class notes

What cannot be put on reserve

Print items:

  1. Items from libraries other than NIU (including any IShare and WorldCat libraries)
  2. Workbooks
  3. Course packs

Electronic Items:

  1. Over 10% of an item, unless copyright is owned by requestor or they have written permission from owner.
  2. Course packs
  3. Workbooks
  4. Unpublished works by anyone but the requester (or written permission of writer)
