Until further notice, I-Share and NIUILLiad requests for physical items (monographs and films) are suspended.
IDS requests for articles is still available through Get-It-Now and ILLiad; however, please note that requests may take longer to be filled due to COVID-19 closures and/or limited staffing. For more information about how to access and request the full text of articles, go to the Accessing Full Text Articles page on the HuskieSearch Help Guide.
Before placing a request with the IDS office for a book or other similar item, please be sure that you have done the following:
1. Check HuskieSearch to be sure that NIU doesn’t already own the item. Type in your search term, and choose the Library Catalog option.
2. Next, check I-Share to make sure that you cannot get the book from another university or college library in Illinois.
If you find an item, click on the record. If it is available via I-Share you will see it under Get It From Other Institutions:
You can request this item after you sign in.
3. If you can’t find your item in the Local Catalog or in I-Share, search WorldCat.
If you are signed in you can request the item from here.
4. Finally, make an NIUILLiad request. Log in with your official NIU ID (such as a zID) and password, then choose the type of request on the left-hand side. You will need to set up your ILLiad account the 1st time that you log in.
Problems? Questions? Call the IDS office at 815-753-9842 or email us at email@example.com. Please note that all ILL notifications are sent to official NIU email accounts only.
