Bar Exam Resources: UBE

UBE (Uniform Bar Examination)

The UBE tests knowledge and skills that every lawyer should be able to demonstrate prior to becoming licensed to practice law. It's been adopted by a number of jurisdictions, including Illinois as of 2019. Examinees who take the bar examination in a jurisdiction that has adopted the UBE  earn portable scores that can be used to seek admission in other UBE jurisdictions.

The UBE is comprised of:

  • A Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) - Jurisdictions that administer the UBE weight the MEE component 30%
  • Two Multistate Performance Test (MPT) tasks - Jurisdictions that administer the UBE weight the MPT component 20%
  •  A Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) - Jurisdictions that administer the UBE weight the MBE component 50%

See the tabs at the top of this guide for more information on each of these tests.
