Interlibrary Loan: Information Delivery Services: Branch / LRCs

This guide describes the interlibrary loan services of NIU's library.

Learning Resource Center Guidelines

As of November 1, 2012, Rockford, Naperville, and Hoffman Estates libraries became Learning Resource Centers, (LRCs), with the focus of access to online resources under the direction of NIU Outreach rather than NIU Libraries.  NIU students taking classes at these campuses will still have access to Interlibrary Loan materials via courier delivery that runs Mondays and Wednesdays to these sites.

Requesting Materials--One Card Requirements

To place requests for library materials, you must create online accounts. These accounts will require an NIU OneCard, sometimes referred to as a Borrower ID, which can be ordered online, and will be delivered to your LRC in 10 business days.  For information, and to order your card, see: www.niu.edu/onecard/faq/faq.shtml.  (See Tutorials to create a Vu-Find account for ordering I-Share materials, and NIUILLiad for requesting items not available through I-Share.) Any OneCards that are left at the end of the semester get sent back to the Bursar's office.

Item available at NIU = order I-Share

Item not available at NIU, but available through All I-Share Libraries = order I-Share

Item not available at NIU or through I-Share libraries = order ILLiad.

Articles are ordered via NIUILLiad only. (See FAQs for more information)

Delivery of Books, DVDs, CDs, etc. to Branch LRCs

To assure timely delivery of materials, it is the LRC/branch patron's responsibility to indicate the LRC location under Campus Affiliation when creating initial account information on the *NIUILLiad form, and to select the proper circulation pick-up location when ordering *I-Share items. In addition, it is a good idea to notify Information Delivery Services (IDS) via phone at 815-753-9245 or email at illdept@niu.edu to ensure your name is added to our LRC/Branch delivery list initially, and removed when you are no longer taking classes at that location.

Please allow a minimum of 5-7 business days for delivery of books owned by NIU libraries. Books from other lending institutions take longer. It is the patron's responsibility to return library materials to the LRC in a timely manner for forwarding to IDS by the due date. Be aware that you are responsible for materials until they are discharged.

Contact your LRC for hours of operation and closure dates during the semester, finals, interim and holidays. Naperville LRC (815-753-8986); Hoffman Estates LRC (815-753-8830); Rockford LRC (815-753-8760).
